Young people from five countries immersed themselves in the world of data analysis with Discover Data

A new edition of Discover Data with Oracle Education Foundation trained 190 students from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico in data analytics.

Junior Achievement Americas and Oracle joined forces once again to carry out Discover Data with Oracle Education Foundation, a challenge designed to introduce students aged 16 to 18 to the world of data analytics, helping them develop key skills for the future of work, such as data analysis and teamwork.

Over two intensive days, 190 students from Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Santiago de Chile and São Paulo worked on solving real problems in their communities related to local health issues. With the support of more than 120 Oracle Volunteers, they analyzed information in Oracle Analytics Cloud, interpreted trends and developed data-based solutions. The experience combined collaborative work, computational thinking, programming and data management, following the methodology created by the Oracle Education Foundation in the United States.

“My experience in Discover Data was wonderful. I met incredible people and learned so much, things that will stay with me for life. I had never participated in a project where I could gain so much: so much material, so much experience to grow personally and professionally. For anyone who wants to participate, for anyone who's interested, it's the best project I've ever been part of,” said Letícia Miyuki, a student at ETEC Abdias do Nascimento in São Paulo.

Beyond the technical component, the program added an additional challenge: each group presented a solution to the problem they identified at Oracle offices in their country, in front of company executives. This final step strengthened skills such as creativity, empathy, organization and teamwork

“STEM disciplines are essential for the jobs of the future and represent a great field of opportunity today. Together, we are showing young people that these subjects are not only useful, but also fun. Expanding access to this type of content opens up opportunities and future pathways for them,” said Noël Zemborain, president of Junior Achievement Americas.

With initiatives like Discover Data, Oracle and Junior Achievement Americas continue to foster a #WorldofPossibilities so that more young people can develop the technological tools essential for their educational and professional journeys
